Are you a heavy internet user and downloader? Is your hard disk overflowing with data more times in a week than not? Have you ever been in a situation where your PC’s performance drastically degraded because of drastically fragmented files,folders or the whole drive as a whole and you could not de-fragment it because you dint have enough free space(15% is required) for de-fragmentation, and you could not free your hard disk because of time constraint, faulty optical hard drive(which was my case and the reason behind writing this post) or just because you are a lazy bone.

Then, “Defraggler” is just made for you.

Defraggler is a free software that is capable of defragmenting individual files and folders(ofcourse it can do the job on the whole drive as well).

Its very very useful when you dont have free space(15%),or means of emptying your hard disk or you just need a file you just downloaded or a folder(of songs lets say) you got from your friend.

Its so easy to use that i dont think there is even need to tell how to use it.Try it and you will know it your self. Im posting a few screen shots from the parent website.

Get “Defraggler” from “HERE“ .

Screenshots:

It saved my life a week ago.Actually i had “Disk Keeper Pro” installed to take care of my hard disk. But unexpectedly, my pc’s performance deteriorated by considerable extent. Im a lazy bone and never bothered to check until one day when i checked and found my “Disk Keeper Pro” has expired(ahem…). I had my 160 GB full so couldnt use the windows defragment tool and since my optical drive was faulty,i could not empty the hard disk by burning a few DVD’s. But in the analysis report i came to know that some of the new files i downloaded were heavily fragmented ( fragmentation as high as 6500for a single file!). I googled and found this tool and expirienced a considerable increase in performance without formatting the system.

Happy de fragmenting.

Ciao

Are you a wannabe or a new webmaster(like me) and wondering how to get more traffic to your site? Or it may be that you have been running your site for some time now and are unhappy with the traffic that you are getting?Then this is going to be of your interest.

Well every day you read SEO(Search Engine Optimization) tips all over the net telling you how to make your content more and more search engine friendly.After all, search engines are a very very important sources of traffic. You cant ignore them.

So everybody knows about Google & Yahoo(of course),MSN,Ask et-cetera and if you are owning a site for sometime then,most probably,you have already submitted your site to these engines and if you are new you most probably knew you will submit it ASAP.

But these search engines make up for most of the world else,China and Russia.Google is the major search engine of the whole world but it is not in these two countries.

Top search engine of China is Baidu,a Pr 7 site,while Russia’s top search engines are Yandex(PR 6) & Rambler(also PR 6).
Total US internet users are counted to be about 211 million,about 18% of the total while China and Russia, combined have 190 million users which roughly comes to about 16.2%.
With these two countries having such huge number of internet users you would certainly not want to ignore their major search engines.And what if i tell you that Baidu gets 51.5% of China’s traffic while google is at 32.9% and, in Russia, Yandex and Rambler hold 46% and 25.7% referrals, while Google has 16.5%.

So, by now,i am pretty sure you would want to submit your site to these three search engines.

Okay,lets do the main part,submitting your site to Baidu,Yandex and Rambler. (It would be better if you install a translator(though ill try to be as detailed as possible but still) as it will be helpful.You can install Google toolbar,it will give you google translator.)

Right,here we begin.
First,lets submit to Baidu.

(IMP:Note that Baidu do not guarantee your site will be crawled and your site should comply with their listing guidelines.)

1. Go to “baidu.com”
You will get a page like this: [SEE FULL SIZE]

2. Enter the address of your site there.Enter the CAPTCHA code.

3. Now press the submission button.

4. You will reach this page: [SEE FULL SIZE]

5. Congratulations! You have just submitted your site to China’s leading search engine.

Now wait for the Baidu bot to crawl your site.
Ill be writing a follow up post on how to submit site to Yandex and Rambler in 1 or 2 days as im still not finished on them as of yet. Do keep a track and make sure you dont miss Yandex and Rambler!!!

[poll=2]

*********************

I have reviewed 5 Linux distros namely openSUSE, UBUNTU/KUBUNTU, Fedora, Mandriva and Debian. However other users have provided valuable additions to the value of the thread by adding their own reviews on more distros. The links to them are:

1> DreamLinux : http://www.chip-india.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=190883#190883 by: coolpcguy

2> PuppyLinux : http://www.chip-india.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=191453#191453 by: cooladi

NOTE: Puppy is a really small distro of just 80 MB with a lot of fetures as per its size. Read the review for more!

3>NOTE: http://www.chip-india.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=193186#193186]The BackTrack – 2 Linux

(well, its again by me)

===================
There has been a lot of Windows – Linux flame war between between community members where they go on fighting over topics whether Linux is more stable or Windows and which of the two looks good!

Well, all the community members who have ever used both OSes for decent period, would surely say that both of them have their own uses and its the USER who has to decide what his OS should be. No matter what your OS is, its the set of features (including the applications) and the level of ease of use ultimately decides what could be OS of choice for the user!

Windows seems to be more user friendly and people are habituated with it. On the other hand Linux world is catching up with the user friendliness and different visual effects to keep the user working fast as well as making the environment more enjoyable.

With plethora of Linux Distributions over the net, each one of them promising higher level of friendliness, usability, richer feature set and application set, it surely becomes a really difficult task to decide what distribution to go for (and after all Linux is FREE)! I have used many of the Linux distributions over last 2 years. I tested almost each of them which I got from some magazine and had downloaded 2-3 of them from the internet as well.

Choices vary and it has to be decided by the USER which Linux distro to go for as its the user ONLY who knows his needs specifically and clearly! One point is that when it comes to LINUX, most of those users who have absolutely no experience with Linux, ask the community members what to go for and ultimately end with almost no solution.

Usually, people discuss only the “FAMOUS” Linux distributions like openSUSE, fedora, UBUNTU and such! However sometimes, other not-so-well-known distros are also too good to resist.

I place them according to what they have to offer in different ares:
****************************************
1> openSUSE: My personal favorite distribution. It offers you the latest stable software, all tested by the community and thus stable. Being one of the most popular distro as well, it does offer you KDE and GNOME and other desktop environments as well. The package management is good as well and you would not need the keyboard while installing software if you have an internet connection and know where to look things up!

PLUS:

=====
*Offers KDE and GNOME and other Desktop environment.

*Stable in most cases. You can rely on it with your precious services and data!

*Ease of use is high.

* Feature set is great! Apart from multimedia, you would not require to look anything from the internet (I say this for general users).

*Most of the things work out of the box.

* NEW: Comes as a LiveCD as well! (from version 10.3)

* Improved package menegement featuring 1-click install from the version 10.3

MINUS:

======
* package management is BAD. It downloads package information from the software repositories everytime you start the YAST package manager (as of the recent 10.3 release).

*If you have a specific software requirement and you can’t use internet, You will have a REAL tough time with this distro.

*******************************

2> UBUNTU / KUBUNTU : Yet another distro which is popular as well as contains applications you would love to use! Ubuntu is quite well and OK, is more userfriendly than any other distro (yes even more than openSUSE). It comes in many flavors which are mainly categorizewd my the desktop Environment they use. Kubuntu uses KDE as its desktop environment and UBUNTU uses GNOME

NOTE: Its is advisable to new Windows users shifting to Linux to use KUBUNTU as the KDE desktop environment is more like Windows Desktop than GNOME is!

PLUS:

=====
* Very easy to use and install.

* Great package management.

* Most of the things work out of the box. Good hardware support

*Live CD is available so that you can see the Desktop before actually putting it on your PC’s Hard disk.

* Fast development cycle. So you have a new version every 6 months
MINUS:

======
* some complaints about instability on latest hardware, specially laptops.

*Live CD needs nice amount of memory to start and run the installation. (RAM required is at least 512 MB).
*******************************

3>FEDORA

To be honest, I am putting Fedora at the third place JUST BECAUSE OF ITS POPULARITY AMONG NEWBIES. Fedora is a project of the Red-Hat and is falling behind. Sometimes buggy, with weaker package management, this distro is not fit for home users. Is mainly used on servers (where experts take care of it!).

PLUS:

=====
*continues the trend of Linux to be secure. Still called as the most secure Linux distro.

* Another version of fedora (although commercial) comes with an added advantage called SEL or Security Enhanced Linux which ensures that if one serive is compromised, the other pars of the system remain secure!

*famous among newbies (I know thats not a PLUS point. . . but still).

MINUS:

======
* Software dependencies will eat up your head and its a nice time consuming process to find and install them.

* Hardware support is not very good for latest hardware which is well supported by other distros.

*Installer is not very friendly. requires a person to be a GEEK in order to install it straight away!
*******************************

4> MANDRIVA

This is one of the BEST Linux distribution to start your Linux journey with. This is one distro that provides MP3 support out of the box and is really stable. Based on Mandrake, one of the most popular Linux distributions, it is well suited for the home user for its wide support of multimedia formats when compared to other Linux distributions. The package manager is very easy for the newbies and comes with a decent bundle of applications and games to keep you busy at work and play as well!

Mandriva is not as popular as others at the top in this list but is surely a distro a newbie will like! If you have not used Linux till now, it is suggested to start away with Mandriva

PLUS:

=====
* easy to use for newbies.

*Stable in case you have not put it up on some hardware not suppported officially.

*Support more multimedia formats out of the box when compared to other distros.

*Comes as a Live CD too.

*Project Metisse is a nice addon to eye candy.

*Both GNOME and KDE are supported.

MINUS:

======
*Package management is not really appreciated by many experienced users.

*Not many software officially available. However, RPMs released for SUSE do work in most of the cases!
****************************

5> DEBIAN

Some people say it is more for a geek . . . but thats not true. It comes with a bundle of more than 15000 (yes nits not 1500, its 15000) software packages. So if it is a dedicated server or be it a multimedia Powerhouse that you want to make, you will never be let down by this OS.

Debian is said to be one of the most stable Linux around and is very easy to use when it comes to software installations. All you need to get some software installed is to type down a simple command. The rest is taken care by its package manager. Debian is the ground on which UBUNTU stands

PLUS:

=====

*really stable on most of the hardware.

*Loads and loads of applications available for being installed from the net!

*A very strong package manager.

MINUS:

======

*Does not come with a lot of eye candy as of the last version

* Does not include the latest kernel.

*Is a bit tough to install for newbies, But still is worth a try!

********************************

There are many many others like PCLinux OS, sabayon, ARK, Xandros etc. but it is not possible to cover all of them. If you really want to switch over to Linux but do not know what to do and whom to trust, all you need to know is :
* How much do you know about computers (and Linux).
* What do you want from your Linux distribution.

Then head over to this address, answer some questions and you will get the name of the Linux distro which suits your needs best:

http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/

Some people think that Solaris and BSD are same as Linux. This is not true. Both of them are derivatives of the UNIX operating system (just as linux is) but they are different from the Linux OS. It is not advisable to use Solaris until and unless you understand UNIX well and are more of a developer than a normal user.

BSD is also more suited for a server than a normal Desktop system.

How to – Step by step instructions for phpBB 2.0.8 subSilver

This is how to add a Google Adsense skyscraper down the left-hand side of your board.

Due to Google’s conditions, you don’t want ads appearing on every page, such as log-in pages, member-lists and search-results pages.

Apart from anything else, you would not get good results here because there is insufficient content to deliver meaningful ads.

The best place to put them is on the index page, the forum page, and the topic page.
examples of how your ads will look:
INDEX
FORUM PAGE
TOPIC PAGE

The layout of these pages is controlled by (.tpl) template files.

index_body.tpl – For the index page.
viewforum_body.tpl – For the forum page.
viewtopic_body.tpl – For the topic page.

So you need to add your Google code into each of these files.

You will find these files in your forum webspace in this directory:

templates/subSilver

These are just text files. Open them in a text editor, make the changes, then save them. If you downloaded them to edit them, you will need to upload the finished versions to the same templates/subSilver directory.

Basically, what we are going to do is add a table with two cells to each page. The left cell will contain your Google ads. The right cell will contain the forum information.

##########
index_body.tpl
##########

Open this file in your text editor.

Locate these lines in the file (may be lines 12, 13, 14):

{L_SEARCH_UNANSWERED}

BELOW these lines, include this code:

google code

This section of code should now look like this:

{L_SEARCH_UNANSWERED}

google code

Replace the words “google code” with your actual Google code.

Here is an example of this section of code including my own Google code:

{L_SEARCH_UNANSWERED}

Locate these lines (near the bottom):

ABOVE these lines, include this code:

This section of code should now look like this:

“About Mac OS Personal Web Sharing”

Mac OS Personal Web Sharing allows Mac OS users to share Folders over the Web.
If you open this page you will shown the system’s major version as requirement.
——————————————————————————————————————–
CODE

POWERED BY HIT JAMMER 1.0!

Hit Jammer is a Unix compatible script that allows you to manage the content and traffic exchange and
make web changes, all without needing HTML. It is typicaly used by the underground sites on the Net
who “pay for surfing ads” and advertise spam services or software. An attacker can find these sites by
searching for the typical “powered by hit jammer !” frase on the bottom of the main page. Then if he
changes the URL to www.target.com/admin/admin.php he is taken to the admin panel. Hit Jammer
administrators are warned to protect this page with the .htaccess logon procedure, but many fail to do
just that. In such cases, customer information like email addresses and passwords are in clear view of
the attacker. Since human beings often use one simple password for many things this is a very dangerous
practice.
——————————————————————————————————————–
CODE

intitle:”index of” trillian.ini

Trillian pulls together all sort of messaging clients like AIM MSN, Yahoo, IRC, ICQ, etc. The various
ini files that trillian uses include files like aim.ini and msn.ini. These ini files contain encoded passwords,
usernames, buddy lists, and all sorts of other fun things.
——————————————————————————————————————–
