National Finals Rodeo or simply NFR is a thrilling premier rodeo championship event which is organized once every year in the first week of December. The event is organized by Professional Rodeo Cowboys association or PRCA and is sponsored by Wrangler jeans. The action continues for full 10 days.
NFR is also sometimes known as World Series of Rodeo and the Super Bowl of Rodeo. NFR was established in 1958 by professional Rodeo Cowboys Association to find out a champion in rodeo’s main event. There are seven main events in the National Finals Rodeo viz calf roping, steer wrestling, bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, and team roping. In each event, the world championship is awarded at the end of the NFR to the cowboy or cowgirl who earns the most money in his or her event for the year. A “World All-Around Rodeo Champion Cowboy” title is also awarded at the end of the NFR to the highest-earning cowboy who has regularly competed in more than one event during the year.
The first NFR was held in Dallas. But today its been organized in Las Vegas, Nevada inĀ Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in Las Vegas, Nevada, where its being organized for almost 23 years now, starting from 1985 after Las Vegas bid for the NFR from Oklahoma in 1984.
NFR has been a run away success in Las Vegas. It attracts more than 1.7 million people in just 10 day period it lives.
NFR has always been a thrilling sport to watch. Its 10 days of on-the-edge-of-the-seat stuff. Though i have not seen the action live, i have seen it on my tv screen. All i can say is NFR is sensational stuff full of thrill, excitement and amazing action and drama. I never miss NFR since the time i first saw it. And im so impressed by the event that i would love to go down to Las Vegas and watch it LIVE seated in gold buckle seats.
This year NFR is from 4-13 December 2008 at the same venue, Thomas & Mack Center. This is the 50th edition of NFR. So dont wait, and buy your National Finals Rodeo tickets now.
