harbhajan slaps sreesanthIf you are debating on whether there is any place for antics like sledging in sports, wait for a minute and think again, because Harbhajan Singh has added another chapter to unwanted things in sports.Harbhajan Singh slapped his Indian team mate Shantakumaran Sreesanth right in the middle of the field in front of a thousand crowd while they were ceremoniously shaking hands after Mumabai Indians(captained by Harbhajan) lost to Kings XI Punjab in Mohali. Sreesanth is believed to have said just “Hard luck” to Harbhajan which provoked Bhajji to such an extent that he saw no other alternative than to slap his team mate Sreesanth in front of the whole crowd. An emotional Sreesanth cried inconsolably on the field while his team mates tried to calm him down.

Later Singh apologised to Sree and was heard saying that Sree is like a brother to him and these things happen. They also hugged each other in a press conference.

Consequently, Harbhajan has been banned from 11 IPL matches which means that he will only be able to play again in this year’s edition if Mumbai Indians qualify for the semis. He is also stripped of his match fees. He wont be able to bag Rs 2.1 crores.

But the scar remains on face of the gentleman’s game. Cricket is no more a gentle man’s game. One wonders what the hell he was thinking while doing a nasty thing such as this. This is in-excusable sire.We can and will only support if you play in the spirit of the sport. Behaviour like this should not be tolerated and is un imaginable. Debate is already on on whether ICC should ban sledging buit what do you do for physical heroics? Players like Harbhajan should be banned for life and a 11 match ban is not sufficient.

It makes you ponder whether it was worth taking Harbhajan’s side in the Sydney controversy? I would still say yes because there is still one force in favour of Harbhajan whose honesty can NOT be challanged.Sachin Tendulakar. If he said he dint say anything, i’ll go by that. But you can not be trusted any more Harbhajan.
