This picture by Hindustan Times lensman Himanshu Vyas has won the IFRA Gold Award for News Photography. Vyas had heard about an orphan fawn being looked after by a Bishnoi woman near his hometown Jodhpur. At the mud dwelling, he noticed the fawn playing with her children. “When hungry, the woman breastfed the fawn and her daughter simultaneously. Wildlife activism is publicised around the world. But this connect between man and nature is unparalleled,” he says.
I was simply spell bound by the beautiful benevolent, compassionate, kind, humane gesture of the lady in picture. Hats off!!!
Salaam India and the spirit of the people…

Dear all,
Just clicking the photograph once and using professional influence can get a prize, this all includes in his profession and this is what he is supposed to do. I am not against the winning of this award, it deserves but what about the lady ?
-she was doing something out of her profession/work for a better world or is this an artificial situation?
-does she got any recognition ?
-is any article published in her name ?
-can she be considered for any award for her contribution?
If anybody know the above please let me know.

I wrote this post not for Mr. Himanshu Vyas but because i was awestruck by the kind gesture of the lady.
I wrote:

And also the lady dint feed the fawn to get any fame or award or recognition, that is what makes this piccture and lady so selfless and unique.
And i dont think the photograph is “created” because Bishnoi’s (the community to which the lady belongs) is known for its love ofr the black deers.

I think is is gross.

This is very reminiscent of the John Steinbeck novel “Grapes of Wrath”. It goes one step farther in that human compassion seems transcend the human / animal relationship. It is tastefully done, yet provoking at the same time.

The love of bishnoi people for wild life and specially black bucks is famous through out India.
1. This is anything but gross.
2. The photographer gave the troubled tribe some very good recognition, and deservedly.

This is an act of selflessness. Great gesture by the Lady. I do agree that the lady does deserve recognition.

the picture is really beautiful and unimaginable..
even if mr.himanshu did it for himself..to get some kind of recognition..than too..it’s still great..atleast we now know..people are so beautiful..and there are still selfless people..
and even if its something to do with photoshop..creating such a beautiful pic..is itself a big thing..
its real or not..but if it exists..it’s certainly a lovely thing..

That is a really interesting image. There is definetely two reaction sides. On one side that is a relly beautiful human gesture, on the other side it looks a little nasty. The animal could easily hurt the woman by bitting her. I don’t know, there can be a lot of good people out there but I myself would never do something like that! Thank to technology we can use bottles to feed starving little animals.

all i wanna know is….does that hurt?????? because it must be painful!
April 28th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
I do not care if its is fake or real..
What I care is to give the lady her dues by giving her the title
” Mother of the human and animal kingdom ” and have her in the book of records…
Give her the best award for her excellent gesture considering its the tuth.
Should’nd the award be given to the maker or the orignal artist than the one who sees it or propogates? However the photographer also needs that award as without him I would have not written the above words..

Each post I have read is very well written and to the point. I would also like to say, not only are the articles well written, but the lay-out of your site is excellent. It was easy to navigate from article to article and locate what I was looking for with ease. Keep up the great work you are doing, and I will be back many times in the near future.
