Yesterday was, indeed, the saddest, ugliest day for Indian Hockey. The day saw history being made(on the negative side) when India, 8 time Olympic champ failed even to qualify for the Beijing Olympics for the first time in 80 years. India were defeated by 2-0 by Great Britain in the finals of the Olympic qualifier.
The fall of Indian hockey has been “consistent” over the past few years barring a few moments such as the brilliant Asia Cup show in the previous year. Former players and the followers of the National game of India have for long blamed KPS Gill, president,IHF(Indian Hockey Federation) for his autocratic way of governing the body and ruining the game and the talent and the potential that lies. Mr. Gill thinks like he “owns” Indian hockey(appoints coaches on yearly bases),behaves like a dictator(change them when they raise voice against him or the way IHF functions). He doesnt want to listen or rather we should say he doesnt likes to listen to anyone who has to say anything against him.
Even after this tragic loss this is wat he had to offer(instead of his long desired resignation): “We do not have a instant coffee machine that you canget results instantly. It takes time to regain your position”.
Did you said “regain your position”Mr. Gill? How much time do you need? You have been brutally murdering the sport since 1994.
Somebody give him a typewriter and a secretary(if not a coffee machine) so that he can think of wriitng a resignation letter.
