The last ashes of Mahatma Gandhi were immersed in Arabian Sea in Mumbai in accordance with Hindu rituals on 30th Jan,2008, a day that marked 60th death anniversary of the Mahatma. Mahatma was killed by Nathuram Godse,a hindu fanatic on 30th Jan,1948 in Delhi.
Gandhi ji’s great grand daughter,Nilamben Parikh immersed the urn into Arabian Sea.
Not a huge crowd turned up for seeing off Gandhi ji for one last time. Politicians were no different than common people.Priya Dutt,a M.P from was a rare politician present at the 20 minute pad yatra(foot march). Other dignitaries included Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Maharashtra Governor S.M. Krishna and Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil.They dint have time for Bapu,a man known and admired world wide for his principles of non-violence.
